Discipline
Peering into the coming year of 2021, I see NOW as the time with the most potential. It’s the time of the year where we envision ourselves at the finish line, the top of the mountain, and even the top of the podium. In the end for all of us, we see ourselves as better and that’s the greatest goal.
So NOW is the time of highest potential. Our goals and events grow closer with every day, week, and month. It’s time to create your strategy. It’s time to write down your goals. It’s time to create the processes to attain said goals. And the processes are where Discipline enters our 2021 scheme.
Discipline is the fundamental action which keeps your processes working and keeps you progressing towards your goals.
This could be simple things like staying hydrated, working out each day, recovering, uploading data, communicating with coach, etc… And these simple activities add up to better workouts, higher FTP, better training prescriptions and ultimately a better you.
With the holidays near, this will not be an easy task so start small now and allow yourself to build upon that once January arrives. I suggest you start with these 3 things:
- State your goals
- Write down your goals no matter how big and share them with your family, your friends, and your coach.

- Build a Plan
- Every goal needs a plan. Formulate your preparation goals and process goals to support your goal(s). For help, talk to your coach.

- Show up Every Day
- No matter what happened yesterday or even 5 minutes ago, live in the now. Focus on your present task and do it to your best ability.
- Bonus: Review your day or week or even training blocks
- Ask yourself, “What did I do well?”
- Ask yourself, “What could I do better?”
- Ask yourself, “What changes should I make to be better?”
