Growth Mindset: Leaning in & out of your Comfort Zone

A webinar with guest speaker Amber Pierce

Getting out of one’s comfort zone is a form of stress like training stress, which demands both stress and recovery. When it comes to learning new skills, you need to challenge yourself (with the appropriate, progressive degree of stress) and then allow yourself the time to assimilate the same way the body needs recovery to adapt to new loads. “Recovery” is leaning back into your comfort zone again. The best way to grow is to lean into challenge and out again with a sense of periodicity, and to lean out only so far as you find that “thrill”, also known as “The Learning Zone”.

She went on to compete internationally at the professional World Cup and World Tour level for twelve years, earning more than 60 victories and a reputation as one of the most respected domestiques in the peloton. Now a Product Manager for TrainerRoad, she also co-hosts the Ask A Cycling Coach podcast. Amber has swum in open water with sharks and has an h-index of 2. She rides a Cannondale SuperSix Evo and a Suzuki SV650s.
