My Predictions for the NFL Playoffs… Why they were wrong and why they were right.

Today I will be reflecting on predictions I made on November 27th about how the  NFL season was going to play out as well as talking about awards for the end of the year.

NFC East

I predicted that the Eagles were going to win. I got this one right, I knew that the Eagles were going to win because no one else in their division is very good and they were by far the best in their division.

NFC North

I predicted that the Vikings were going to win it. I was incorrect, I have always thought that the Vikings had a very talented team and that they had no weak spots but nearing the end of the year their defense fell apart and they lost their grasp on the top spot.

NFC South

I predicted that the Saints were going to win it and be the #2 seed. I got this one right as well other than the #2 seed part, there were many reasons I thought that they would win it but the main one was that they have no weak spots at all and that they are tied for my favorite team.

NFC West

I predicted that the 49ers were going to win and be the #1 seed. I was correct, I knew they were going to win it because even though the Seahawks were always neck and neck with them I thought that their defense was so good that they could push past Russel Wilson and the Seahawks.

NFC Wild Card

I predicted that the first game would be Packers vs. Seahawks. I was incorrect. That almost happened though. The Packers and the Saints both had the same record but the Packers had the tiebreaker so they ended up not being in the Wild Card.

I predicted that the second game would be Eagles vs. Vikings. I was incorrect. Both teams were in the Wild Card but they didn’t play against each other.

NFC Championship Game

I predicted that it would be Saints vs. 49ers and that the Saints were going to win 28-31. I was incorrect. It ended up being 49ers vs. Packers. I predicted this because all year long I thought that the Saints were going to win it all and that they were the best team in the NFL and then when they played the Vikings in the Wild Card the game ended on an obvious offensive pass interference play that wasn’t called and they lost. They probably would have ended up making it to the Championship if it wasn’t for that call.

AFC South 

I predicted that the Texans were going to win. I was correct on this one, even though I thought that the Titans were super good near the end of the season they were too far behind and had too hard of a schedule.

AFC West

I predicted that the Cheifs were going to win and be the #2 seed. I was correct. I knew that the Cheifs were going to come alive in the second half of the year with Patrick Mahomes back fully healthy and they were going to be super dominated.

AFC East

I predicted that the Patriots were going to win. I was correct on this one too. I knew that the Bills had been playing well lately but I just didn’t think they could edge out the powerful Patriots and I was right. Although I do think that in the next few years the Bills could definitely take over the East.

AFC North

I predicted that the Ravens were going to win and be the #1 seed. I was correct on this one as well. I knew they were going to win it no question. They were easily the most dominant team at that point and the Steelers were super far behind them.

AFC Wild Card

I predicted that the first game would be Bills vs. Texans. I was correct. I knew this because those were the only good teams remaining.

I predicted that the second game would be Titans vs. Patriots. I was correct. I knew this because those were the only good teams remaining.

AFC Championship Game

I predicted that it would be Patriots vs. Ravens and that the Ravens would win. I was incorrect. It ended up being Titans vs. Cheifs and the Cheifs won. I predicted that the Ravens would win because they were arguably the strongest team in the NFL the past year so it only made sense and I predicted that the Patriots were going to make it because that team always has a way of making it through the playoffs.

Super Bowl

I predicted that it would be Saints vs. Ravens and that the Saints would win 35-38. I was incorrect. It ended up being 49ers vs. Cheifs and the Cheifs won. I predicted the Saints and the Ravens for the same reasons. To me, they were the two most dominant teams in the NFL last year.

Defensive Player of the Year

I predicted that it would be Stephon Gilmore. I was correct on this one, I knew that he would win because no one was even close to his level on the field and he was guaranteed the award.

Offensive Player of the Year

I predicted that it would be Josh Jacobs. I was incorrect. The reason I chose him was that he was very good this year but a week after I made these predictions I switched my prediction to Michale Thomas so in a way I was correct.

MVP

I predicted that it would be Russel Wilson. I was incorrect. I thought this because up until that point of the season Russel Wilson was having an insane year. He had the touchdown throwing lead by a ton until then but after that, he started playing worse and Lamar Jackson beat him out for it. In the end, I do think that Lamar deserved to win the award though.
