The Saints Playoff Woes

Today I will be talking about the last three years of playoffs and what has gone wrong for them every year so far. They would have won the superbowl in my opinion two of the three years.

Minneapolis Miracle

It was January 14th, the divisional round game, the Saints were ahead, there were only a few seconds left in the game and one last throw for the Vikings to live on and play their next game. Case Keenum threw it up to wide receiver Stephon Diggs who was in double coverage. He jumped over the first guy basically but all the second guy had to do was tackle him and the game would have been over. But instead, he went for a diving tackle and missed. There was no one around and Stephon Diggs ran the ball into the endzone for the game-winning touchdown. This was no one but the Saints players fault although it does stink so it makes it on this list.

The “No Call”

It was January 20th, the NFC Championship Game, the Rams were ahead but the saints had time, momentum, and only needed a touchdown to take the lead. They were at the 35-yard line and Drew Brees threw a perfect pass to a wide receiver. This would have gotten them inside the 10-yard line and they would have ended up winning the game. But the Rams cornerback rammed into the wide receiver right before he caught the ball. Pass Interference, correct? Nope, they didn’t call anything. This horrible no-call cost the Saints a Superbowl trip to face the Patriots. Here is a picture of the foul.

Another “No Call”

It was January 5th, the NFC Wild Card game, the Saints and the Vikings were tied in overtime and if the Vikings got a touchdown the game was over. It was third down and they were at the three-yard line. There was a big miss-match though, huge Kyle Rudolph was going up against a tiny cornerback in single coverage. The ball was thrown up to Rudolph and Rudolph stiff-armed him away but it wasn’t called. Another example of a time where the Saints have lost to referees. This is horrible for them. Here is a picture of the foul.

I feel very bad for the Saints because of these two plays that cost them playoff opportunities where I thought they would win the Superbowl. I hope it doesn’t happen again.
